If what you say is correct, that taxation is killing the country, you would expect that growth and taxation would exhibit negative correlation. This is not what we actually find.

Concentrated wealth does not create jobs, people create jobs. More equal income across the board provides a more fertile soil for businesses to thrive. Income inequality does the opposite.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6380332481433385691.post-45508627452344118712014-01-28T15:31:43.652-05:002014-01-28T15:31:43.652-05:00Wow Anonymous2!

The money for education, research, and business growth all come from concentrated capital. Without these pools of capital new companies and products cannot grow. It is the growth of the government that is killing the country.BillMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08534815974954943900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6380332481433385691.post-60608468648446678462014-01-28T14:42:00.908-05:002014-01-28T14:42:00.908-05:00Kind of a superficial, almost myopic critique of t...Kind of a superficial, almost myopic critique of the discussion on wealth inequality.

Doesn't address the much larger point that if pre-billionaire Rockefeller lived in a society with extreme wealth inequality, the general population couldn't afford to give him money to make him wealthy.

It's not a coincidence that growth was highest in the US when income was the most equal. The top 1% in Canada take 10.6% of the national income but pay around 20% in taxes while in the US the top 1% take 19.7% so inequality as Andrew Coyne states is more of an American than Canadian problem. Off course a lot depends on what individuals think is a reasonable level of inequality although it seems most Canadians want a high level of equality despite the fact humans are not equal.

Also forgotten is in Canada, New Brunswick is the most equal province yet has the lowest median income while Alberta is the least equal but has the highest median income. Otherwise everybody has in the last 30 years seen their incomes rise, but the rich more so than the poor. If you care only about your own income that should be a good thing, but too many are concerned what others make forgetting there is not a fixed amount of income, some create wealth.

Finally those who point to Germany and Scandinavian countries as proof socialism works, there is one problem. Those countries have a more generous social welfare system, but also are very pro free market (not something most Canadian socialist favour). Otherwise they combine pro free market policies with a generous social welfare system whereas the left in Canada believes in big government and a strong welfare system which doesn't work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
